About AVIF to PNG conversion

AVIF is an image format based on AV1 intra-frame encoding released by the Alliance for Open Media in 2019, supporting lossy compression, lossless compression and alpha channels. PNG is a general-purpose image format released in 1996 that uses DEFLATE lossless compression, with compatibility covering most scenarios. This conversion is required due to insufficient compatibility of AVIF in older versions of software.

This conversion converts AV1-encoded AVIF images to DEFLATE-encoded PNG images. The alpha channel contained in the original AVIF is fully preserved, and the bit depth information of the original image is also retained. PNG uses lossless compression, so conversion does not cause additional image quality loss, and the output file size is larger than the original AVIF file.

The converted PNG can be used for various design deliverables and web screenshot storage, can be opened in all mainstream image processing software, and can be displayed directly in older browsers. It is suitable for workflows that require compatibility with older software or older systems.

FAQ about AVIF → PNG

Is there image quality loss after conversion

Conversion does not cause additional image quality loss. The output of this conversion is PNG format, which uses DEFLATE lossless compression mechanism, and will fully retain the image information of the original AVIF image.

Will the alpha channel be preserved

The alpha channel will be fully preserved. Transparency information contained in the original AVIF image is fully converted to the output PNG. PNG natively supports 8-bit alpha channels, and transparency can be displayed normally.

What is the maximum single file size limit

The single file upload limit of this tool is 50MB, and only one file can be converted at a time. This service is free of charge, output files have no watermarks, and no account registration is required.

Will files be stored

Files are not stored. Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion. After conversion is completed, the server immediately deletes the source file and the output file, and does not retain any copies of files.
