About WebP to PNG conversion

WebP was released by Google in 2010, based on VP8 intra coding, and supports lossy and lossless compression, alpha channels and animation. PNG was released in 1996, uses DEFLATE lossless compression, and is the standard format for screenshots and design deliverables. Many older software do not support WebP, which creates the need for this conversion.

The PNG generated after conversion retains the alpha channel and color depth information contained in the original WebP. The file size is larger than the source WebP file. The EXIF metadata contained in the original WebP is fully retained, and the image quality is not additionally adjusted during the conversion process.

The converted PNG can be read directly by all design software and browsers. It is suitable for workflows that require editing or viewing images in older versions of Photoshop, early mobile systems, and as design asset deliverables.

FAQ about WebP → PNG

Will image quality be lost after conversion

Converting to PNG does not cause quality loss. PNG uses the DEFLATE lossless compression mechanism, which fully retains the original pixel information of the source WebP image and does not compress the image quality.

Does conversion preserve the alpha channel

The alpha channel is preserved. PNG natively supports 8-bit alpha channels, and the alpha channel information contained in the source WebP is fully retained in the converted PNG file.

What is the single file size limit

The maximum single file size for conversion on this site is 50MB. Only one file can be converted at a time. The service is free of charge, output files have no watermarks, and no account registration is required.

Will uploaded files be stored

Conversion is completed on the server side, and files are uploaded via HTTPS. After conversion is complete, the server immediately deletes both the source file and the output file, and does not store any files.
