About BMP to PNG conversion

BMP is an uncompressed bitmap format released by Microsoft in 1990, and only uses BI_RGB encoding. PNG is a DEFLATE lossless compressed format released in 1996 that supports alpha channels. The demand for BMP to PNG conversion comes from the need to compress BMP file size and adapt to common design workflows.

The converted file size is reduced to one fifth to one third of the original BMP, while retaining the original BMP bit depth information and embedded EXIF metadata. PNG's lossless compression mechanism does not alter the original image pixels, causes no quality loss, and does not support animated BMP processing.

This conversion is suitable for converting BMP files from legacy Windows workflows into a usable format for design deliverables and web display. The converted PNG is compatible with all mainstream browsers and image editing software, and can be viewed on most devices.

FAQ about BMP → PNG

Will image quality be lost after conversion?

Conversion does not cause quality loss. This conversion is based on PNG's DEFLATE lossless compression mechanism, does not alter pixel information from the source BMP, and the original image content is fully preserved.

Is BMP transparency information preserved?

Transparency information can be fully preserved. PNG natively supports 8-bit alpha channels. The conversion process fully migrates alpha channel information from the BMP without requiring reprocessing.

What is the maximum single file size?

This site sets a 50MB size limit for single files, only one file can be converted per operation. The service is free, outputs watermark-free files, and does not require account registration.

Will my files be stored?

Your files are not stored. Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion, and both the source file and output file are immediately deleted from the server after conversion completes, with no retention.
