About PNG to WebP conversion

PNG was released in 1996, and uses DEFLATE lossless compression. WebP was released by Google in 2010, based on VP8 intra-frame coding, and supports both lossy and lossless compression. PNG lossless compression preserves image quality but produces larger file sizes, converting PNG to WebP reduces file size to meet network usage requirements.

When converting to lossy WebP, the output file size at the same quality is approximately 70% of the original PNG. The 8-bit alpha channel of the original PNG is fully preserved, and valid information from 48-bit color depth in the original PNG is retained. You can adjust the quality parameter to balance output file size and image quality.

The converted WebP can be used for web image display and mobile application resource storage. It loads correctly in Safari 14+, Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Output files have no added watermark, and meet the resource requirements for network distribution.

FAQ about PNG → WebP

Will image quality decrease after conversion?

Selecting lossless conversion preserves all image quality of the original PNG. When selecting lossy conversion, you can control image quality by adjusting the quality parameter, and the output size is much smaller than the original PNG at the same image quality.

Is the alpha channel preserved?

The 8-bit alpha channel of the original PNG is fully preserved. WebP natively supports alpha channels, and the conversion process does not remove or modify alpha channel information.

What is the maximum single file size?

The maximum size for a single file for this conversion is 50MB. Only one file can be converted at a time. This service is free of charge, output files have no watermark, and no account registration is required.

Will my files be stored?

Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion. After conversion is complete, the server immediately deletes both the source file and output file, and no files are stored.
