About GIF to MP4 conversion

GIF is a 256-color limited bitmap animation format released in 1987, uses LZW lossless compression. MP4 is a general-purpose video container that supports H.264/H.265 encoding, and can contain audio. Converting to MP4 solves the problem of slow loading of large GIF files on web pages.

After conversion, the original multi-frame animation of GIF is retained as an MP4 video stream, the original alpha channel is discarded after conversion, and the audio track is removed. The output video follows the site's limit of 640px maximum width and 20fps maximum frame rate for input GIF sources, and uses CRF mode to control output quality.

This conversion is suitable for workflows that require embedding short animations into web pages and uploading animated content to social media. MP4 is natively supported by all mainstream browsers, desktop and mobile operating systems, and compatible with most versions of video editing software.

FAQ about GIF → MP4

Will quality change after conversion

Quality will change compared to the original GIF. The original GIF is limited to 256 colors, while MP4 supports full-color output, and uses CRF constant quality mode to control output quality.

Will the original transparency be preserved

The alpha channel cannot be preserved after conversion. General MP4 encapsulation does not support single-channel transparent output, and transparent areas will be filled with a solid color background.

What is the single file size limit

This site processes only one file per conversion, the maximum single file size is 50MB, and the duration of the input GIF must meet the site's requirement of less than 10 minutes. Requests exceeding the limit will be rejected.

Will my files be stored

No files are stored. Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion, the server immediately deletes the source file and output file after conversion completes, no storage is performed.
