About ICO to PNG conversion

ICO is an icon container format for the Windows platform, which can encapsulate multiple resolution bitmaps from 16px to 256px, and supports PNG compressed entries. PNG is a general-purpose bitmap format released in 1996, which uses DEFLATE lossless compression. This conversion extracts icons from ICO files for editing with general image tools.

The conversion extracts icon data of the corresponding resolution from the ICO file, and generates a PNG file of the corresponding size. The output PNG has a larger file size than the corresponding entry in the original ICO. The output retains the complete transparency channel and original color depth, but does not retain the multi-resolution structure of the ICO container. EXIF metadata is retained as stored in the original entry.

The conversion result is suitable for web design material production, icon editing in design software, and social platform avatar production. It is compatible with image viewing tools on all mainstream desktop and mobile operating systems, and can be opened and edited without special icon processing software.

FAQ about ICO → PNG

Will image quality be lost after conversion?

This conversion produces lossless output, with no loss of image quality. OKfmt processes files based on the Sharp engine, extracts original image data from the ICO to generate the PNG, does not perform re-encoding and compression, and retains the original image quality information.

Will the transparency channel be preserved?

The transparency channel of the original ICO will be preserved. ICO natively supports 8-bit transparency, and PNG also natively supports 8-bit transparency channels. The conversion process does not modify transparency channel data, and retains complete transparency information.

What is the maximum supported file size?

The single file size limit is 50MB, and only one file can be converted at a time. This service is free of charge, output files have no watermarks, and no account registration is required for use.

Do you store my uploaded files?

User files are not stored. Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion. After the conversion is completed, the server immediately deletes both the source file and the output file, and does not retain any files.
