About JPG to AVIF conversion
JPG is an image format released by the JPEG organization in 1992, using lossy compression based on DCT discrete cosine transform. AVIF is a format released by the Alliance for Open Media in 2019, based on AV1 intra-frame coding. Its compression rate is much higher than that of JPG, so many users choose to convert JPG to AVIF to reduce storage size.
At the same image quality, the size of the converted AVIF is about 50% of the original JPG. This conversion retains the EXIF metadata of the input JPG. JPG itself does not support alpha channels or animation information, so the converted AVIF does not add transparency or animation content. You can adjust the output compression quality via parameters.
The converted AVIF is suitable for web display in Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+, and Safari 16+. It reduces website bandwidth consumption and user loading time. Mobile devices require the corresponding browser version to parse and display correctly.

FAQ about JPG → AVIF
Will image quality decrease after conversion?
At the same file size, AVIF provides better image quality than the original JPG. At the same image quality, AVIF has a smaller size than the original JPG. Image quality change is determined by parameter settings. This tool performs conversion based on the Sharp engine, and results comply with encoding standards.
Will alpha channels be preserved after conversion?
Alpha channels will not be preserved. The source JPG format itself does not support alpha channels, and the original file does not contain alpha channel information, so the converted AVIF also does not have an alpha channel.
What is the single file size limit?
The maximum size for a single file in this tool is 50MB. Only one file can be converted at a time. This service is free of charge, output files have no watermark, and no account registration is required to use.
Do you store my files?
We do not store any files. Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion. After conversion is complete, the server immediately deletes both the source file and output file, and retains no copies of any files.
