About JPG to GIF conversion

JPG is a lossy still image format based on DCT released by the JPEG organization in 1992. GIF is an 8-bit indexed color format based on LZW compression released by CompuServe in 1987. This conversion meets the production requirements of multi-frame spliced animated images.

The output image is limited to 256 colors after conversion. Original JPG does not contain alpha channels or animation. You can output single or sequential JPG as a GIF with transparency or multiple frames. EXIF metadata carried by the original JPG will not be retained in the output file.

The GIF output by this conversion is compatible with all mainstream browsers and image viewing software, and is suitable for making animated emoticons for social media. It can also load normally when used in older versions of IE browser.

FAQ about JPG → GIF

Does image quality change after conversion

Image quality changes after conversion. JPG uses 24-bit true color, while GIF only supports 256-color output. Color banding will occur on original images with rich colors after conversion.

Will alpha channels be retained

The JPG format itself does not support alpha channels, so the conversion output cannot generate an alpha channel out of thin air. You can manually specify a transparent color in the generated file.

What is the maximum file size

The maximum single file size is 50MB, and only one file can be converted at a time. The service is free of charge, output files have no watermarks, and no account registration is required.

Are my files stored

No files are stored. Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion. After conversion is completed, the server immediately deletes both the source file and the output file, and retains no data.
