About PNG to AVIF conversion

PNG is a lossless image format released in 1996 that uses DEFLATE lossless compression. AVIF is a format released by the Alliance for Open Media in 2019, based on AV1 intra-frame coding. It can significantly reduce file size while maintaining image quality, making it suitable for compression requirements.

After conversion, the file size with the same image quality is approximately half that of the original PNG. It can preserve the 8-bit alpha channel and 48-bit color depth of the input PNG, supports converting PNG animations to AVIF animation sequences, and allows output with either lossy or lossless encoding modes.

Converted AVIF files can be displayed on web pages in Chrome 85, Firefox 93, Safari 16 and newer versions. They reduce loading bandwidth for web images and lower storage usage, making them ideal for site image resource optimization scenarios.

FAQ about PNG → AVIF

Will image quality decrease after conversion

Selecting the corresponding quality parameter for output preserves the same visual quality as the original PNG. AVIF has higher encoding efficiency than PNG, so output files with the same quality are smaller than the original PNG, and no additional quality loss occurs.

Will the alpha channel be preserved

Conversion preserves the 8-bit alpha channel of the input PNG. The AVIF format itself supports alpha channels, so the output file retains the original transparency information normally and requires no reprocessing.

What is the maximum single file size

The maximum single file size for this tool is 50MB. Only one file can be converted per conversion. This service is free of charge, outputs watermark-free files, and can be used without account registration.

Will you store my files

Conversion is completed on the server side. Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS. After conversion is complete, the server immediately deletes both the source file and the output file, and does not store any files.
