About AAC to MP3 conversion

AAC is the successor encoding to MP3, delivering better sound quality than MP3 at the same bitrate. It is the standard encoding for HLS streaming media and digital broadcasting, with ADTS as the common raw stream container. MP3 is a lossy perceptual encoding standardized in 1993, all its patents expired in 2017, and it is universally compatible with all playback devices.

This conversion is performed and output based on FFmpeg. The output bitrate can be adjusted between 32-320kbps, the sample rate and channel count of the original file are retained, and the Vorbis Comment metadata in the original AAC is converted and stored as ID3 metadata tags for MP3.

The converted MP3 output is compatible with all mainstream playback devices, suitable for hardware scenarios that do not support AAC decoding, such as old car stereos and early portable players. The maximum input size for a single file is 50MB.

FAQ about AAC → MP3

Will sound quality change after conversion

Perceivable changes to sound quality will occur. AAC and MP3 use different encoding mechanisms, so this conversion is lossy to lossy. Choosing a higher output bitrate reduces the degree of sound quality loss.

Will song metadata be preserved

Metadata is preserved and the storage format is converted. The Vorbis Comment metadata from the original AAC file is converted to the MP3-standard ID3 metadata tags, retaining information such as song title and artist.

What is the maximum size of a single file

The maximum input size for a single file is 50MB. Only one file can be converted per conversion. The service is free of charge, output has no watermarks, and no account registration is required.

Will my files be stored

Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion. After conversion completes, the server immediately deletes both the source file and the output file, and does not store any files.
