About JPG to BMP conversion
JPG is a lossy compression format based on DCT discrete cosine transform released by JPEG organization in 1992. BMP is an uncompressed bitmap format released by Microsoft in 1990. Conversion requirements come from compatibility requirements for the original bitmap format in legacy Windows system workflows.
After converting JPG to BMP, the file size will become multiple times of the original JPG. BMP does not support transparency channels. Original JPG files contain no transparency or animation information. The conversion process retains EXIF metadata carried by JPG, and original compression artifacts from JPG will be retained in the output BMP.
The output of this conversion is suitable for native legacy image processing workflows from Windows 3.x to Windows 11. It is only used to meet the format requirements of old tools, and is not suitable for network transmission or general storage scenarios.

FAQ about JPG → BMP
Does image quality change after conversion
Conversion only modifies the container format and does not add new compression loss. Original compression artifacts from the source JPG will be fully retained in the output BMP file.
Will transparency channels be preserved
Transparency channels are not preserved. The original JPG format itself does not support transparency channels, so the output BMP also does not contain transparency channel information.
What is the maximum single file size limit
For this conversion tool on this site, the maximum single file size is 50MB, and only one file can be converted per conversion.
Will my files be stored
Files are not stored. Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion, and both source and output files are immediately deleted by the server after conversion is complete.
