About M4A to WAV conversion

M4A is an audio container conforming to the MPEG-4 Part 14 standard, usually encapsulating AAC or ALAC encoding, and it is the default audio format for iTunes and Apple devices. WAV is uncompressed linear PCM audio encapsulated in the RIFF container, serving as the standard intermediate format for audio editing and recording. Conversion requests mostly come from professional audio processing scenarios.

The conversion outputs uncompressed linear PCM, usually retaining the original 16-bit or 24-bit bit depth, original sampling rate and number of channels. WAV does not support adjustable bitrate settings. Metadata tags contained in the original M4A will be migrated to the corresponding fields in the output WAV file after conversion.

The converted file can be imported into professional audio editing software such as Adobe Audition and Pro Tools for processing, and is also compatible with professional recording equipment that requires uncompressed formats. The size of a single output file is approximately 10 times that of an MP3 with the same content.
