About MKV to MP3 conversion

MKV is an open multimedia container released in 2002, which can encapsulate content of any encoding and multiple audio tracks. MP3 is a lossy audio coding standardized in 1993, and all its patents expired in 2017. This conversion extracts audio from MKV and encapsulates it into MP3 format to meet general playback requirements.

The bitrate of the output MP3 supports adjustment in the range of 64kbps to 320kbps. The sample rate and number of channels of the original audio are preserved, and the ID3 metadata tags of the original audio can be retained. Higher bitrates result in larger output file sizes.

This conversion is designed for extracting audio content from MKV videos. The generated MP3 can be played directly on any player on smartphones, smart TVs, and PCs, and is suitable for making phone ringtones or portable audio content.

FAQ about MKV → MP3

Does audio quality drop after conversion

There is a certain degree of quality loss after conversion. This conversion is based on FFmpeg, which re-encodes the original audio into lossy MP3. Higher bitrate settings result in smaller quality loss.

Is original audio track metadata preserved

ID3-compatible metadata of the original audio track is preserved in the output MP3. Non-standard custom metadata cannot be retained. Metadata processing is completed via FFmpeg.

What is the single file size limit

This service sets a maximum size limit of 50MB for a single uploaded file. Only one file can be converted per conversion, and files exceeding the limit cannot be submitted for processing.

Do you store my files

Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion. After conversion is completed, the server immediately deletes both the source file and output file, and does not store any files.
