About MOV to MP3 conversion

MOV is an Apple QuickTime video container launched in 1998, and is the technical predecessor of MP4. It often encapsulates ProRes or H.264 encoded content. MP3 is a lossy perceptual audio coding standardized in 1993, all its patents expired in 2017, and it is universally compatible with all playback devices. Extracting audio from MOV and converting it to MP3 fits general playback scenarios.

The conversion is based on FFmpeg. The output MP3 bitrate can be custom adjusted between 64kbps and 320kbps. It retains the original audio sample rate and channel count, preserves all ID3 metadata tags embedded in the original MOV. A higher bitrate results in a larger output file and retains more audio detail.

It is suitable for extracting voice content from MOV videos recorded on iPhones, and fits workflows for local player playback and reading by in-car audio devices. It supports conversion of MOV source files with a duration of no more than 10 minutes, and the single file size must not exceed 50MB.

FAQ about MOV → MP3

Will audio quality change after conversion

Audio quality changes according to the selected bitrate. MP3 is a lossy encoding, bitrate is adjustable between 64-320kbps. A higher bitrate brings audio quality closer to the source audio, and results in a larger file size.

Can original audio metadata be preserved

ID3 metadata tags embedded in the source MOV can be preserved, including basic information such as track title, artist, and album. These contents are not actively removed during the conversion process.

What is the maximum size of a single file

The maximum size for a single conversion file on this service is 50MB, and only one file is supported per conversion. Files exceeding the size limit will be rejected.

Will source files be stored

Conversion is completed on the server side, files are uploaded via HTTPS. After conversion completes, the server immediately deletes both the source file and the output file, no files are stored.
