About AVI to GIF conversion
AVI is a RIFF video container introduced by Microsoft in 1992, capable of encapsulating codecs such as DivX and Xvid, without a faststart index pre-positioning mechanism, and is a common output format for old DV capture cards and dashcams. GIF is a bitmap format released in 1987 that only supports 256-color palettes and multi-frame animated images. This conversion is used to generate animated content that can be played directly on web pages.
The output GIF has a fixed maximum width of 640px and maximum frame rate of 20fps. The original AVI audio track will be removed, and the original video's dynamic loop playback property is retained. The final file size is smaller than the original AVI video, and the palette is generated to adapt to the content of the original frames.
This conversion is suitable for turning content captured by old DV and dashcam clips into web-embeddable animated images for forums and early social platforms. Current animated image scenarios are gradually being replaced by WebP and AVIF formats.

FAQ about AVI → GIF
Will quality change after conversion
Quality after conversion will be lower than the original AVI video. GIF only supports 256 colors, output is limited by 640px width and 20fps frame rate, and color banding will appear in color transition areas.
Will the original audio track be retained
The original AVI audio track will not be retained. The GIF format itself does not support storing audio content, and can only output animated image files containing video frames, and cannot carry audio information.
What is the single file size limit
This tool has a maximum single file size limit of 50MB, and also requires the source AVI video duration to not exceed 10 minutes. Files exceeding the limit cannot be submitted for processing.
Will my files be stored
Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion. After conversion is complete, the server immediately deletes both the source file and output file, and does not store any files.
