About MP3 to M4A conversion

MP3 is a lossy perceptual coding standardized in 1993 for MPEG-1/2 Layer III, with a bitrate range of 32-320kbps. M4A is a MPEG-4 audio container that encapsulates AAC or ALAC. This conversion requirement arises from the native adaptation of the M4A format in the Apple ecosystem.

The conversion outputs AAC-encoded audio encapsulated in M4A, with adjustable bitrate in the range of 64-320kbps. At the same bitrate, AAC encoded files are smaller than MP3. The ID3 metadata tags of the original MP3 are retained, and the channel count and sampling rate remain unchanged from the original parameters.

This conversion is suitable for organizing iTunes media libraries, local audio storage on Apple iPhone and iPad devices, and can also be used for daily storage and network sharing of smaller-sized audio files.

FAQ about MP3 → M4A

Will audio quality change after conversion

At the same bitrate, AAC encoding has better audio quality than the original MP3. If the converted bitrate is set lower than the original MP3 bitrate, audio quality will be lost to varying degrees. The conversion is performed based on the FFmpeg engine.

Will the original ID3 tags be retained

The ID3 metadata tags in the original MP3 file are retained during conversion, and are automatically written to the corresponding metadata fields of the output M4A file. No common metadata will be lost.

What is the maximum single file size limit

This tool sets the maximum size for a single input file to 50MB. Only one file can be converted at a time. The service is free of charge, outputs no watermarks, and does not require account registration.

Will you keep my converted files

No files are retained. Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion, and the server immediately deletes both the source file and the output file after conversion is completed, without any storage.
