About MP3 to Opus conversion

MP3 is a lossy perceptual audio coding format standardized in 1993, all of its patents expired in 2017, and it is compatible with all devices. Opus is a low-latency coding format standardized by IETF in 2012, optimized for speech and real-time communication, and requires conversion for compatibility on some platforms.

The output bitrate can be custom adjusted in the range of 6-510kbps. The original sample rate and number of channels are preserved, ID3 metadata from the source MP3 is converted and stored as Vorbis Comment tags for Opus. Higher bitrates result in smaller audible quality loss.

The conversion output can be used for real-time network voice transmission and low-latency streaming distribution. It supports playback on Android 5.0+ devices and modern browsers that are compatible with Opus, and is not suitable for legacy hardware players that only support MP3.

FAQ about MP3 → Opus

Will audio quality decrease after conversion?

If the output bitrate is higher than the original MP3 bitrate, the quality decrease is negligible. If the output bitrate is lower than the original MP3 bitrate, additional audible quality loss will occur, which follows the general conversion rules for lossy encoding.

Will original audio metadata be preserved?

Yes, metadata is preserved. Original ID3 tags from the source MP3 are converted to Vorbis Comment format and stored in the output Opus file, with no loss of basic information.

What is the single file size limit?

The maximum single file size supported by this service is 50MB, and only one file can be converted per conversion. Files exceeding the limit cannot be submitted for processing.

Will my files be stored?

No, files are not stored. Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion. After conversion completes, the server immediately deletes both the source file and output file, and retains no data.
