About MP4 to SRT conversion
MP4 is a general-purpose audio and video container that can embed inline soft subtitles or image-based subtitle streams. SRT is a plain-text subtitle format that only stores timecodes and text content. Extracting text subtitles from MP4 to generate a standalone SRT file meets the needs of editing external subtitles and adapting to multiple media players.
This conversion extracts embedded text subtitles from MP4 to generate SRT, retains the original timecode accuracy down to milliseconds, and does not retain original subtitle styling, positioning or effect information. The output file is in plain-text format, and is much smaller in size than the original MP4 video file.
The generated SRT can be used directly in mainstream players such as VLC and PotPlayer, and editing software such as Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro, and is compatible with various playback devices on Windows, macOS, Linux and mobile platforms.

FAQ about MP4 → SRT
Does subtitle quality change after conversion?
There is no quality loss for subtitle content extracted from embedded text in MP4. SRT is a plain-text format that does not retain the original subtitle styling and positioning attributes, and only preserves text and timecode information.
Is timecode accuracy preserved?
Original timecode accuracy can be preserved. The custom parser developed for this tool can read the embedded subtitle timestamps in MP4, and outputs SRT timecodes with millisecond accuracy that conforms to the SubRip format specification.
What is the maximum single file size?
The single file size limit for processing on this site is 50MB. Only one file can be converted per conversion, and the maximum video duration is 10 minutes. Files exceeding these limits cannot be submitted for processing.
Are my files stored on the server?
No files are stored. Files are uploaded to the server via HTTPS for conversion. After conversion completes, the server immediately deletes both the source file and the output file, and does not retain any user files.
